Here’s a bit of progress on this one. Remember what it looked like before? Well, here it is now. It’s not a big change, but what with the holidays and feeling as if I’d rather hide in a dungeon than open my eyes most days lately, I figure any progress is good.

Hope you’re all enjoying your days more than a sharp stick in the eye and fingers crossed for a positive start to this next year!

I’ve had this piece sitting around, waiting for paint for months. This week, I started painting on it. There will be much, much more paint before it’s finished. It will likely end up with little resemblance to what you see here. But I thought it might be fun to share progress shots of this one along the way. You can see a photo of it at an earlier stage after the jump.
Work in progress, another in the series “Old Ruling Class”.
The support is a cradled masonite board treated with a white clay ground, which produces a nice balanced surface that is both a resist and absorbing platform which allows me to do reductive mark-making with tools such as a razor blade, which is a technique my father, Harry, used to great effect in a number of projects such as his Divine Comedy series.
Harry celebrates his 92nd birthday this weekend. Happy Birthday, Dad!

As for not so sharp photos, well, you be the judge of that. I’m still working on this one. It’s sort of a sketch to figure some things out. It measures 17 x 10 x 3/4 inches and is acrylic and stuff on wood. Figuring is proving difficult this week though. I’m sick and my everything hurts. Not to mention, I have one of those barking goose coughs now. It’s distracting.
Honk Honk!

Heyo! I’m in the North Country right now (hopefully) having a great time at a big ol reunion. In the meantime, here’s a very young work in progress that’s awaiting my return back in lovely sweltering Western Mass. Also, please go look and leave a vote for the title of my last finished painting that I accidentally posted earlier this week.

small acrylic on panel something like 16 x 24 inches or so
I’ve actually been thinking this will be vertical but Photobucket flipped it and now I’m a little more open to horizontal. I never really decide for certain until a piece is done, but I’m curious, what do you guys think? Vertical or horizontal? Here it is turned.

Peace and Deetforallyourblackflyneeds,
