I Don’t Have Any Art Today

Posted in Art, art on paper, Food, Miscellaneous, sculpture, Toni Tiller with tags , , , , , , on March 25, 2009 by Toni Tiller

I know I could post something from the archives, but I don’t want to go that way today so instead I’m going to take a page from the Happy Cloud playbook and post a bunch of links. A Links Du Lapin smorgasbord if you will. I’m going to start with something forwarded to me by my friend Lisa, she and I both love horses and when I was little I had about a million My Little Ponies, but none of them were are cool as these. After that you can go and make your own stop motion video with your webcam, or if you have some free time try out samorost, there’s a sequel to that game but I haven’t gotten through the first part yet so I’m waiting. Oh, and speaking of games, I have no idea how this works but somehow this woman is using game scripts to make cool art. I should probably do something productive today and write an artist’s statement but I am probably just going to sit around and fantasize about making bacon cups instead. Now before I go, here’s 100 girls and 100 octopuses, you know, just for the hell of it.

It’s no great secret that I am borderline mentally impaired when it comes to math. I try, I swear I do, but as soon as someone tries to explain something to me my brain comes over with the equivalent of white static on a TV set. It just happens to be a coincidence that today is Square Root Day just as someone was valiantly trying to explain to me last night how they work and what they are for. I am sure they are very useful, but I am also sure I hope to never need to know why.

It’s chilly, rainy, and Sunday so I am going to go play Pac Mondrian. Wanna play too?

How to Market Your Art

Posted in Art, Links, Miscellaneous, news with tags , , on January 23, 2009 by jdhastings

I’m not going to tell you how to market your art, because I don’t know. I’m expecting to be discovered once I die in a tragic blender accident during Daiquiri Tuesdays at the local bar. However, Joanne Mattera, art-blogger and professional artist extraordinaire has decided to write a weekly segment about how to market yourself as an artist.

If, like me, the idea of putting yourself out there is somewhat foreign and frightening, I suggest bookmarking the page and checking it out. If, on the other hand, your name in Damian Hirst then, um, don’t worry about it.

Surfers of Google Earth can now view the works from the Prado in fine detail. The upside of this is that these works are presented with a resolution of 14,000 megapixels, and you can zoom in on any area you choose allowing you to see parts of paintings you would never be able to see in person with the naked eye. Now of course looking at art on a screen is never a substitute for seeing it in person, but I suppose if you can’t get yourself to Spain this is better than not seeing them at all. The The Guardian UK has an article that goes into it more deeply, or you can skip that and download Google Earth and see for yourself.

Here is this weeks fun toy. Remember those sand art things you could make in bottles at the fair? Now you can make them online over on This is sand. Some of them get pretty intricate, so while you are over there be sure to check out the gallery, this one right here is one of my favorites.

Here is an example from our friend Tom Brown, of the blog From the Island of Baltimore.
