mini encaustic painting by StephG

mini encaustic painting by StephG available on Etsy

So I was thinking, maybe you’ll have some extra cash hanging around after the holidays and decide you want to invest in some art. Well, the age old medium of encaustic would certainly be a great place to start, and I just happen to have a bundle of lovely little encaustic paintings for sale in my Etsy shop here. Prices are very reasonable, too! Nothing over $300!

Or maybe your budget is even less elastic and small gestural paintings are really more your thing. I can help you in that case as well. I have a second Etsy shop where the price limit is currently $25 or less! Wow indeed! You really can’t beat that.

In case you’re curious, most of the proceeds from the sales I make will be going directly to pay off an ever-expanding vet bill. My feline companion Stumpy whom I’ve introduced you to in the past has fallen ill, and, as a result, he’s moved in with us. He’s suffering from a disease of the mouth which is apparently not understood all that well yet. That makes treatment a bit hit or miss. At times (like now) he’s in too much pain to even eat. He’s had four teeth removed and the remaining ones cleaned, polished and treated with fluoride. He’s had several courses of antibiotics, a steroid shot and we’re currently trying to manage his pain with a topical opiate we rub into his little ears three times daily. It doesn’t help that he’s FIV positive. So you see, buying art from me right now is like killing two birds with one stone. Add to your beautiful art collection and help out the sweetest little Manx you could ever meet! Really. He even snuggles up against me on his side under the covers for bedtime stories! Stumpy the spooning wonder!

Thanks for reading.

buy some paintings

I’ve been trying my hardest to get new items in my etsy store for the holiday season. I finally put some paintings up that I had been meaning to for a while.

Holiday Art Sale!

Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend! Overall, mine was good, but a bit of a mixed bag. I didn’t give details over the weekend when I mentioned I was laid up with a fabulous new injury because, quite honestly, tripping over the ottoman is not a cool way to earn yourself a bad ankle sprain. So instead let’s pretend it was a missed triple Salchow landing. Or if your not of the mind that figure skating is cool (and I’m not unless it involves some crazy thug knee-bashing a la Tonya Harding vs Nancy Kerrigan), let’s say I twisted my ankle jumping off the shed roof into an enormous pile of leaves (although for the record, my launch off the shed went down without a hitch.)  So now my ambulatory abilities are severely restricted.  I can’t put any weight on my right foot.  I’m forced to sit around on my fat ass as much as possible or hobble around on crutches when neccessary and I don’t even have an impressive anecdote to go along with it.  I cringe every time I’m asked the dreaded question, “What happened?!”  I’ve told a bunch of people that my pal Mark pushed me down the stairs.

shop#2 lotsa stuff at $25!

Do you feel bad for me? How bad? So bad you’d be willing to put your money where your mouth is and toss some of your hard earned green my way? If so, you’ll be thrilled to hear I just spent the last several hours (sitting on my fat bored ass) updating both of my Etsy shops.  Any art lovers on your Christmas list?  Maybe you wanna treat yourself to something this holiday season.  The miniature encaustics that I typically sell for $125 through galleries are now priced at a mere 75 bucks!  My second shop where I sell less involved paintings is loaded with a bunch of stuff priced super low–mostly $25 and under!

Whelp, that’s it for now. I’m gonna grab ye old crutches and hobble off to the water closet. Fingers crossed I don’t trip. Wish me luck. It would suck to have my obit read: busted her skull on the toilet bowl.

Unsteadily,
-Steph

Consumer Detritus: Regretsy

Posted in "But Is It Art?", Links, Miscellaneous, Tom Bennett with tags , , , , on October 7, 2009 by Tom Bennett

A huge number of artists and craftspeople worldwide market their handmade creations on the online site Etsy. A lot of it, most of it, like most man-made stuff in general, is crap. Regretsy is my new favorite blog. Some of this is art. Well maybe very little of it is. The rat is kinda tasty.

I opened a new etsy shop. I have so much older art just taking up storage space, I figured I might as well see if anyone wants it. Its nice that etsy lets you run two different shops and it doesn’t cost that much to list. I was going to try ebay, but I wasn’t very impressed with the art I saw there and I already have experience with etsy.
This shop will be filled with mostly art, but I was also considering making some decorative pillows. I made a few quilted pillows for gifts and I really like the way they turned out.  I also plan to get some custom printed fabric from spoonflower.com to make some pillow from.  Here are a few patterns I was considering.  I’m not sure which to try out first.

(beyond fabulous) fish in a squirrel suit by Slightly Curious on etsy

(adorably sick) squirrel feltidermy by girl savage on etsy

or rather a real life version of either of these with the destructive little monster who refuses to stop tearing up my attic/roof line/soffit as a stand-in for these models. I could prolly also use one of these to hold back my hair while I get a bead on the vandal with my brand new squirrel shooter. Hopefully, my aim will prove better than than that of my pal Leo who one groggy AM managed to shoot out the window in his neighbor’s van in an attempt to gun down one of the degenerate squirrel thugs that plagues his hood. Any suggestions (no matter how absurd) for ridding my home of these invaders would be most appreciated.

With Gratitude,
-Steph

p.s. as a thank you for all the helpful replies I’m expecting to get, I’ll share with you all this wonderful recipe. click to read…

Today I Need

Coffee… and all things caffeinated. It’s just one of those wan, lackluster days where I can muster the energy for nothing more than sucking down coffee and browsing the interwebs. Ohyeah. So far, I’ve found a number of items which would make this experience far more pleasant/fun/bearable.

Bespoke Face Corset and Neck Brace by London artist Paddy

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19170589

not only because maybe I’m feeling a little droopy, but because it’s a gorgeous, thought provoking hand-crafted work of art. From the artist’s etsy shop, madybypaddy:

“Due to popular demand, Paddy is making available for the first time his unique Silk Face Corset and Neck Brace garments. Paddy was originally commissioned by London’s Victoria & Albert Museum to produce a series of facial garments in response to themes and issues relating to cosmetic surgery raised at the Museum’s event ‘Short Cuts to Beauty’. Each Face Corset is made specifically to fit the commissioners face and combines ‘facial body play’ with beautifully crafted workmanship. Each commission will be produced over a number of weeks via a postal fitting correspondence.”

Happy Friday!
