I did this sketch the other day while the paint on what I really wanted to work on stubbornly refused to dry. And although I was irritated at the time, I really do understand. Extreme humidity can suck the energy to do anything out of anyone… or anything. Hell, I was barely able to muster the energy to breathe that day. Gills might have helped, but wearing mine always reminds me of that awful movie Waterworld so I generally keep them tucked away–out of sight, out of mind. Also, I didn’t manage to stay dry myself so how can I possibly expect more from my art? Right. It makes no sense, any of it. Flocking hell.
OK I love ya Mister Eyeballman buh bye!

Posted in Art, Drawing, Toni Tiller with tags Art, Drawing, Toni Tiller on July 6, 2011 by Toni TillerThis is my stab at making art this week, please note the new surface of choice. I predict that this is the onset of a new trend and soon everyone will be drawing on stryrofoam left over containers, you just wait.
When I’m not busy revolutionizing the world of art trends I’ve been putting together boxes of goodies to send out to some of my friends from my vintage windfall. Fabrics, yarns, sewing supplies, and weird things I can’t identify will soon be hitting the post office and making their way to other parts. The woman I inherited these from was unique and prolific, and I am sure she would be pleased to see these things make their way out of the attic and into the studios of other artists. First I gotta sort it all though.

But is it art?
Humans are full of sh*t , huh?

I started out with the intent of filling a Tumblr request for an octopus attacking a boat. Problem was, it was way too hot for eight legs that day. I quit after three legs and no boat. Then later when it cooled off a bit, I came back and finished up what I could before it got too dark to see. I’ll have to give this one another shot soon.

Posted in Art, Drawing with tags Art, Drawing, J. D. Hastings on June 14, 2011 by jdhastingsI’m in a bad mood. I didn’t sleep well and when I finally did fall asleep I dreamt about not being able to fall asleep. Then I’m out of tea, my computer is running slow and AN ENTIRE SCHOOL OF CHILDREN was in my way as I tried to exit the BART station to get to work.
Also, I apparently forgot to upload my image for today up to Flickr and I stupidly left open an opportunity to play an X in 2 directions on a triple letter score on Words with Friends. I am a bottle of pure distilled rage this morning and hate everything.
Here’s a quick drawing of the worm from Dune that I made into a collage I can’t post. The little figures suck. I get it.

I came tantalizing close to finishing something to post this weekend but got caught by the buzzer. Instead, here are some designs I scribbled while teaching myself some of the art of tessellation.

Hastings, Painting with tags Art, booker little, Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, Collage, Drawing, jazz, miles davis, paintings, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk on May 3, 2011 by jdhastingsI forgot to upload the piece I was going to post today, so I’ll put up some random jazz portraits I’ve made in the past. I may have posted some of these before. When in doubt about what subject to represent (when I bother with representation) I tend to drift towards portraits of Jazz musicians because of my passion for their artform. It’s not deep, and often the portraits don’t convey the essence of what I love about their art, but it’s something to use as I explore ways of representing things.

Booker Little, Used masking tape mounted on paper and collaged. 10 x 8

Clifford Brown, Ink on paper 8 x 11

Miles Davis, acrylic on Canvas (made via stencil). ~13″ x 13″

Sarah Vaughan made from raw used masking tape (not mounted to paper then collaged). 24″ x 18″

Charlie Parker, graphite, small

Thelonious Monk (this one’s really old).
I’m currently working on a piece incorporating portraits of Coltrane and Miles in them, so in a way this is still relevant.

Sunday Sidewalk Doodles: Incorporeal Patterns
Posted in Art, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags Art, chalk, doodle, Drawing, KPAO!, sidewalk, stephg on April 24, 2011 by ssstephgWe brought sidewalk chalk over to the park the other day and made a big collaborative drawing. We traced our bodies in overlapping positions and then filled in the shapes with various patterns. The kids loved that it looked like a crime scene to begin with. There were at least nine body outlines. The drawing ended up being lots of fun and pretty cool to look at. Two more pics after the jump!
