digital collage
Because of things and stuff, I spent far too much time this week. I spent it and now it’s gone. If time were money, I’d be broke. I have no idea what it means in this context that I AM broke. Anyway, as you can see,I fucked around with pixels instead of paint.

That’s it.

p.s. I love Crooked Fingers. Mine are, too, crooked I mean.

Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Illustration with tags Collage, digital, monster, steph on February 28, 2011 by Daniel Allyn LeeI was inspired to try using the preview/detail photos by Steph to make a monster digital collage. The colors are a bit on the dark side, but I think it works. One of the drawings I used is an interior a tavern. I also included a sketch of some beer steins, just to be silly. (I didn’t get Steph’s permission to use her photos; I hope she doesn’t sue me.)

Hidden Niche, digital collage, 11″x 14.5″, 2011
I think, I’m getting closer to what I want to do and where I want to be with these. Next, I want to use this particular approach in a painting, a paper collage, and maybe a quilt and see where it goes from there.
still making monsters
Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Illustration with tags Art, digital, mosters, not art on January 3, 2011 by Daniel Allyn LeeHi, I haven’t posted much lately. I’m a bad blogger. I was pretty busy over the holidays making stuff for people. I’m still getting some holiday related projects wrapped up. I definitely made a new years resolution to make more art.
This is a digital collage that I never got finished. Then, looking through some sketches these monsters seemed to fit. So, I put them together.

Instead here is a little experiment combining digital collage and a monster drawing.
I’m not sure if this works that well; it kind of feels like the illustration is just slapped on top off the collage. I need to work on integrating the two more. It is still fun and i really do like the background though.

Digi Wooly Willy

Man, I loved that game! I actually found one a few years ago and still play with it sometimes. Well today I got wondering if there were a digital version of Wooly Willy, and lo and behold, of course there is! FreeLancerFox has a version in his Deviant Art gallery. I also found a Wooly Willy application at Paze Interactive that’s available for your iPhone or iPod Touch. This second one looks more like the original game.
Have fun!

TOO LITERAL?
Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital with tags Collage, digital, word art on June 1, 2009 by Daniel Allyn LeeUnfinished, digital collage, 10″ x 13″, 2009
I’ve been very busy making dolls. I had this piece unfinished on my computer and decided to throw some words on it that I feel are relevant to me. I dunno if it comes across too heavy handed, sickeningly rainbow colored, or overly-literal but I don’t have time to think about it too much. I gotta go make some toys!
Update on my “Photo-Impressionism” Series
Posted in Jason Gray, Photography with tags abstract photography, digital, experimental, Jason Gray, Photography on May 22, 2009 by Jason GrayThis is an update to a series (part 1, part 2) of photographs that I have been working on since December of 2008. Though “Impressionism” may no longer be an appropriate term for this series, I’ll continue to use it to refer to my previous photos already described under this moniker. In any case, I am making some progress in building a mechanism to make taking these photos portable, and these latest few are testament to that progress. In the meantime, I have also failed over and over again in trying to align my means with my goal. Hope you enjoy these; please view them as stepping stones.
things I’ve done before
Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital with tags Collage, digital, procratination, skull on May 4, 2009 by Daniel Allyn LeeI was working on a new collage. Well, a reworking of an older collage that would result in a new digital collage, but it just isn’t coming together yet and I want to spend more time with it. So, I’m a bit late today in posting an old piece. New work next time, I hope.
Distortion: recalling André Kertész

He made a series of distorted nudes, inspired by the properties of water on the human form, but using mirrors to metamorphicize the figure. My father Harry had a book of these photos and I recall first browsing through it as an 11 year old.

1216, digital collage, 19″x12 1/2″, 2009
I’m playing around a bit with the word art thing. I’m not sure how long I’m actually going to stick with it. I think I need to switch to paper collage for these. Digital is great and has a lot of possibilities but I think taking the time putting together a paper collage gives them more weight in comparison. Its kind of like the difference between a handwritten note and an e-mail.

trying out some words

1149, digital collage, 16″x 12″, 2009
So, here’s my first stab at some new word art. I wasn’t sure if I would use found phrases or the more snarky comments from my old pieces or write new stuff. So , I’ve decided to do a mix of everything; try out a bunch of different approaches. I went with the collaged together, ransom note style for this first collage. I like the connotations of anonymity it gives, like the statements are meant but not owned. I think I have to resolve how the imagery in these is going to relate to what’s written, but I think that will result in some fun experimenting that I’m really looking forward to.

Urban Art Awakening
Posted in openings with tags Art, digital, Photography, Soulard Art Market, St. Louis, Urban Awakening on March 31, 2009 by Jason GrayI was recently included in this event at the Soulard Art Market and Contemporary Art Gallery in St. Louis. I have no idea who else is showing, but it was juried by Kate Poss of Art St. Louis and Washington University, so I expect that it should be interesting. I won’t actually be in attendance for the opening, but I am thinking about sending my brother down there to stand in. If anyone makes it there, please let me know how it went.

Primitive Mythology, digitally altered paper collage, 10 1/2 x 14 in., 2009
This is an old collage that I reworked on the computer. Even though it includes a little text its not part of my planned series of word-art pieces. I also changed the title of the piece. Its in reference to something I heard Deepak Chopra say on Nightline last week. I thought it was amusing, but hope its not too offensive to anyone.
The hand is from a photo of my own hand after I nearly cut off my finger whilst de-pitting an avacado.
Easy Reasoning

I like the way this piece turned out. I went down the crossdresser road on a whim and I probably won’t make it a reoccuring theme, but it is what it is. I was really happy with the way the background turned out. It was kind of an experiment in its self, one that I will have to try again.
