I can’t promise it will continue, but the Sunday Sidewalk segment of d’Arteboard is back for at least this week. Ornamental concrete brought to you today courtesy of Mother Nature’s senility. Please no one remind the old gal of what March in New England is supposed to be like.

Warm thoughts and warmer air,

Saturday Morning Cartoons: The House That Jack Built

Who knows jack? I dunno jack, but I think I remember watching this animation a long time ago and liking it. I grew up watching nothing but Canadian television and PBS because we lived so far north and so far out in the sticks there was no cable (still isn’t) and we couldn’t afford a satellite dish cuz my parents thought college funds for the kiddies were more important. Thanks Mom! I remember swearing was OK on Canadian TV even way back in the 80s. Crazy Canucks. Anyway, I ran across this vid on Youtube, watched it again and I still like it.

I am NOT A DOG PERSON!!!

I’m actually a crazy cat lady, but if there were a place where you could drop a buck or two to rent a french bulldog puppy for an hour or so, I’d be broke. You’ve probably seen that video of the squishtasticly adorable french bulldog on it’s back rolling side to side over and over again in a futile attempt to right itself. (No?! OK, I’ll post that, too at the end.) But have you seen the one of the tiny new pup with the squooshy frog butt trying to threaten a confused cat? Or the one of the plush little porker lying on his back fast asleep like a cute drunken troll? Well, other than gessoing a couple of panels, I haven’t done anything in the studio this week so this is what you get. Watching silly videos and doing yardwork in the sunshine is how I’ve kept my spirits up. We just lost one of our long time feline friends to old age so I’ve been a little down. Right well, looklooklook! Every time I watch these I giggle.

I came across Anna The Red’s Bento Factory blog while perusing art related blogs here on WordPress. Anna is a visual artist who makes the most adorable, impressively crafted Japanese lunch boxes ever! She creates everything from farm animals to anime characters out of healthy, delicious looking food. Her most recent bento features a parade of edible characters from Maurice Sendak’s childrens book Where the Wild Things Are!
