Monotypes from Life, Indirectly

To be clear, if one is making a monotype from life, working from a an inanimate subject like a still life doesn’t pose many problems. working from a live landscape is more challenging in that one requires a press(if one is using a press) to be nearby, and working from the live model is only problematic if the model becomes uncomfortable since the process can be a stop and start, dragged out thing. The monotypes below were made from life “once removed”, in that I drew the model in a sketchbook first and then created the monos from the drawings.

Lazy Feline Hiccups and Passes Gas

This is for my fellow immature cat people. *giggles*

I dunno, the hiccup bounce seemed real anyway. My excuse for posting such drivel: I can’t be held accountable for my actions as excessive heat and humidity is making me delirious.

I’m so tired I could…………………………………………… n’t do much of anything really.  So don’t expect much from this post, ok?  Good.  Being up front about things is the way to go, don’t you think?  Me, too.  In fact, I like to theorize about how much improved life would be if humanity would implement a strict “All Honesty, All The Time” policy (provided the adjustment period friction didn’t ignite into a massive, unstopable blaze). But like I say, I’m tired, so I don’t currently have much to say on the subject. Suffice it to say I like to know where I stand–to be properly oriented.

Wanna see some details of the above painting?  Good.  I’ll show you some.  Just follow the jump. Read more »

This clip from Azumanga Daioh makes me laugh every time I watch it.

Yes, I watch anime. So what?

Today I Need This

wearable “Sophia” cat mask by Carrie Rouillard
paper mache

Sans Souci Studios website
and the etsy shop where you can buy Rouillard’s handmade masks

OK, what I really need is a break. The last few days have been a highlight to what is turning out to be a sucktastically rotten spring. Plumbing trouble, phone trouble, the nagging leftovers from a tenacious head/chest cold and a nasty case of poison ivy in a highly inconvenient spot have left me feeling like I just want to crawl under the bed and hide for a month. But if it’s impossible to avoid all the crap, and the raw, itchy slab of meat masquerading as my left buttcheek tells me it is, then maybe I could settle for hiding behind this gorgeous handmade cat head. One part cat + one part alien via the pearlescent color=total awesomeness. I’m certain that were I to don this guise my life would improve exponentially. I don’t know exactly how it would work, but still, I’m convinced. At the very least, I’d be entertained by the looks I’d get wearing it at Ye Old Stop & Shop… that and maybe it would muffle my nonstop whining.

Check out Rouillard’s website and shop to see more wonderful mask designs.
