Saturday Morning Cartoons: Christmas In Therapy

Posted in Miscellaneous, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , , , , , on December 24, 2011 by ssstephg

Ever see the Bloom County Christmas special A Wish For Wings That Work? It’s a pretty good one. Not the most festive scene, but this is one of my favorites.

Well, happy holidays and try not to give anyone rabies!

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Meow Meow Meow Nyo!

Posted in Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 17, 2011 by ssstephg

In the mood for something cute and creepy and weirdly amusing? This Japanese cartoon from 1947 fits the bill nyo! PLease excuse me now. I’m off to dress my cats up in doll clothes and watch them play ring toss in all their bipedal splendor. Maybe i will even bottle feed them instead of making them struggle with their mini canteens nyo!

Anyone unlucky enough to have been cursed with a bunion will relate to this. No. No one will relate to this.

Happy weekend!

final monster WIP

Posted in Art, Daniel Allyn Lee, Painting with tags , , , on June 20, 2011 by Daniel Allyn Lee

I’m only calling this a “work in progress” because there are still a few small tweaks and touch-ups to do here and there. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. I wish the purple in the lines would have come out more; they really look black unless you look at them in the right light. Otherwise I really like the colors.
I will definitely be making more paintings like this soon; although, they will all probably be smaller.

another monster WIP

Here’s another WIP pic of the painting I’m working on.
another wip
I’m not yet decided if I’m going to keep the star bursts white, or fill them in with color. I added them to break up the color a bit, but while I like them in the painting, I kind of miss the impact of all that color and how with the lines it confused the eye.
I’m really hoping to make some paintings that, while using cartoon elements, don’t only elicit the response, “Oh, that’s cute.”

Saturday Morning Cartoons: A Purge Of Dissidents

Posted in Art, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , , , , on May 28, 2011 by ssstephg

Found this via the Melvins on Facebook. It’s the first in a series.

From Amphetamine Reptile Record’s Youtube channel:

Amphetamine Reptile’s ART Division (OX-OP), teamed up with artist DALEK and HAZE XXL to do a bizarre project called A Purge Of Dissidents (2007). Weirdo space monkey animations by DALEK soundtracked by HAZE XXL. Several Melvins accompany him on this track.. The finished project was released as a BOOK/CD/DVD. It’s still available on Ipecac.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Story Corps, No More Questions!

Posted in Art, Miscellaneous, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2011 by ssstephg

I love this animation!  The dialog is from a Story Corps interview with 87 year old spitfire Kay Wang and her son and grand-daughter.  Kay is none too happy about answering her family’s questions, but her answers are very entertaining.  She passed away just weeks after the interview and her family returned to record some of their thoughts which are also included.  It’s funny and very sweet.

monster painting

This is one of the pieces I did for the Meth & Hot Dogs 2 show at Lift designer toys and gallery in Royal Oak, Michigan, which is near Detroit. It opened on Saturday and from the photos it looks like a great show with a fun opening.

This is a little more straight forward then I plan on working on in the immediate future, but I like it. I just bought a bunch of canvas and stretchers, and after a craft fair coming up in may I plan on concentrating on painting more. Til then, its sew, sew, sew, monsters, monsters, monsters, with maybe a little sketching in between.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: WAKE UP IT’S RIDICULOUS O’CLOCK!!!

Posted in Art, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , on April 30, 2011 by ssstephg

I’ve been awake since 5:00 am, but it’s all fine and good.  In fact, it’s a bit like this cartoon, although it would be definitively finer and gooder if I had a number of the especially special things our porcine star and friends enjoy throughout these scenes.  Tops among my desires would, of course, be a cane-cum-magic wand with the ability to turn a bed into a rocking moon or a rainbow-traversing horse.  But I state the obvious.  I’ll shut it now.  Please enjoy this two and a half minute mystical trip.

I think Toni might appreciate this. Talk about ambitious paper slicing folk. Kinda makes me want to hone my scissor wielding skizzles.
