I would love to just pop this little video on here for you all to see, but they do not allow embedding. It’s called “Otto vs. the Italian Futurists.”  A remake of a scene from the lost Futurist omnibus film “Vita Futurista” (1916). Created for “Futurist Life Redux” (2009), a Performa Commission with SFMOMA and Portland Green Cultural Projects.

Click ;HERE to see. And special thanks to Meg Rorison for finding this.

Getting In The Spirit

Posted in video with tags , , on December 14, 2009 by Toni Tiller

I’m the first to admit that I’m not a big holiday lover, but this extraordinary display got me to crack a smile. It was created by a former amusment park designer for his son this Christmas. Pretty fantastic, but with over 20,000 lights I’d hate to think of the electric bill.

Saturday Morning Cartoons: not really a cartoon

Posted in Stephanie Gerolimatos, video with tags , , , , on December 12, 2009 by ssstephg

My friend and neighbor from down the street (we’ll call him Mister Smartypants for now) sent me a link to this charming vid the other day. It’s not so much a cartoon. OK it’s not really a cartoon at all, but it’s some nifty animation, and who doesn’t like listening to Thom Yorke? Thanks Mr. Smartypants!

How To Vid of the Day: The Japanese Art of Kancho

Posted in Art, Miscellaneous, Stephanie Gerolimatos, video with tags , , , , , , , , on November 28, 2009 by ssstephg

From JuneDidGood’s Youtube channel:

Kancho is a proud Japanese tradition that has touched millions of people in the birthplace of the Hello Kitty. For years, the sport has remained Japan’s best-kept secret.

Now Sensei Flower, the 39th master of the Clasped Way of the Kancho Clan, unlocks the mysteries of this sport so that more may be touched by its joy of life. The practice is rooted in kindness and love and practitioners will find that doing kancho often will lead one to clarity of mind and bowel.

“Kancho is a gift because it is always a present (pleasant?) surprise.” – Sensei Flower

Okaasan is Japanese for mother.  You’ll need to know that late in the vid at the part where he pulls out the photo.

MONDO points for the melodica! a version with Dramamine would be even better.

Cool Space News

“I thought this was a blog about art?”

Shut up.  Nobody likes a know-it-all.  But here’s something we can all agree on:  Stevie Wonder + Sesame Street = More cool than you can shake a stick at!  I may have posted this vid here before. If so, oh well. It’s good enough to warrant a rerun.

Happy Friday the 13th!

Saturday Morning Cartoons: Cardboard Animation

Posted in Art, Miscellaneous, Stephanie Gerolimatos, video with tags , , , , , , on October 17, 2009 by ssstephg

Years ago when I was feeling a little defeated about my search for a house in the midst of the housing bubble, my friend Leo told me he’d build me a house out of corrugated cardboard.  Leo is a master at transforming cardboard into all manner of useful stuff, and I’m certain he could have built something spectacular and livable.  He said a cardboard house would prolly only last about 5 years in this New England weather and so in the end I opted for a more traditional abode.

This animation by Sjors Vervoort uses cardboard in a fairly straight-forward but effective manner.  I think Leo would approve.
