Here’s another fabric pattern I was messing around with. I don’t know about the plaid in the background, but that can be easily changed out. I might try polka-dots instead.

Posted in craft, Daniel Allyn Lee, design, digital, Illustration with tags Drawing, fabric, Illustration, monsters, pattern on March 14, 2011 by Daniel Allyn LeeI managed to get this group of monsters to wrap around after fiddling with them forever on the computer. I’ve wanted to try this for a while to get some fabric printed with my characters in the pattern. The pattern doesn’t match exactly, but close enough. I’ll probably just have a swatch printed with this exact pattern. I’ve had some fabric printed with monster faces before, that I made into dolls, but not an original drawn pattern. I’ll have to experiment more with.

Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Illustration with tags Collage, digital, monster, steph on February 28, 2011 by Daniel Allyn LeeI was inspired to try using the preview/detail photos by Steph to make a monster digital collage. The colors are a bit on the dark side, but I think it works. One of the drawings I used is an interior a tavern. I also included a sketch of some beer steins, just to be silly. (I didn’t get Steph’s permission to use her photos; I hope she doesn’t sue me.)

Posted in Art, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Illustration with tags Art, digital, mosters, not art on January 3, 2011 by Daniel Allyn LeeHi, I haven’t posted much lately. I’m a bad blogger. I was pretty busy over the holidays making stuff for people. I’m still getting some holiday related projects wrapped up. I definitely made a new years resolution to make more art.
This is a digital collage that I never got finished. Then, looking through some sketches these monsters seemed to fit. So, I put them together.

Posted in Art, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Drawing, Illustration with tags fantasy, Illustration, paint, sketch, sword on August 23, 2010 by Daniel Allyn LeeThis week, for my daily drawings I’ve been concentrating on people instead of monsters. I’ll pry continue this theme next week too, although, I need to practice my perspective drawing. I’ve also been thinking about trying some paintings were I use my own drawings as I would a found image. I made these two digital colored drawings as kind of a sketch; one being a straight forward approach to color and the second a more arbitrary abstract approach.
I like the arbitrary one a lot and I would like to explore the idea in paint, as soon as I have time.

Posted in Art, Daniel Allyn Lee, digital, Drawing, Illustration with tags drawings, Illustration, monsters on August 9, 2010 by Daniel Allyn LeeThis week, I started to concentrate on embracing my weird a bit more. I think, I need to stop editing my ideas, trying so hard to be cute, funny or clever. Maybe its not a perceivable difference to anyone but me, but I’m really digging it and will probably continue for a while.

Posted in Art, Daniel Allyn Lee, Drawing, Illustration with tags Art, Illustration, monster, ohio on August 2, 2010 by Daniel Allyn LeeI’m working on about five new paintings for a small show in Ohio this October. These are a couple sketches for them. I wanted to do a few small grouping of monster and them a couple of the paintings will have large crowds of them. All of which will be surrounded by plush monsters on the wall.

I’ll post some of the actual paintings when they are finished.

Posted in Art, contingent art, Illustration, monotype, printmaking, Tom Bennett, Work in Progress, work on paper with tags Art, dream, Illustration, monotype, printmaking, Tom Bennett on July 15, 2010 by Tom BennettHere is a finished monotype and some unresolved studies illustrating chosen dreams of Toni Tiller’s.
The medium allows for quick studies to be worked and reworked on the plexiglass matrix, so that experimentation is always an easy and disposable exercise. The first I’m happy with, the rest are problematic and I’m posting them as WIPS of a sort. I’m using rags, a steel comb and razor blades as some of my tools here.
Click on the link after each title to read the corresponding dream.
A Tail Like a Cat, monotype, 9″ x 12″
Dream from 7/02/10)
Dream study/ Floating to the Surface, monotype, 18″ x 14″
Dream from 6/12/10
The above has a number of issues. its too busy and the figures seem to be a bit static, for starters.
Dream study/ Storm, monotype, 18″ x 14″
Dream from 7/11/10
This is clumsy to me, and I’m not happy with the design, nor the drawing.
Dream study/ Eating Mice, monotype, 9″ x 12″
Dream from 5/31/10
I had designed this to be viewed vertically, but the issues I have with the mouth and general drawing pushed me to present it horizontally. The composition is more dynamic and the tension works. I don’t think know if it represents the tone of the dream right, though.

I ordered some new pens and I think they are helping me remember to vary my line weight.

drawing a day
Posted in Art, Daniel Allyn Lee, Drawing, Illustration with tags Art, Illustration, line, monsters on July 5, 2010 by Daniel Allyn LeeIn an effort to become better at illustration I’ve decided to commit to making at least one drawing a day for the next year or more. If I get stuck on what to draw, I’ll randomly select a word from the dictionary. I plan on posting my favorite drawing once a week online.
for this drawing the word was ‘eleventh’.

Posted in Art, art on paper, Collage, Daniel Allyn Lee, Illustration, Painting, work on paper with tags Art, Collage, Illustration, monsters on June 14, 2010 by Daniel Allyn LeeWell, I did my first craft show last weekend. It was fun but it rained a lot and I didn’t sell as much as I’d hoped. This last week I’ve been doing a little relaxing, organizing stuff, taking pictures and listing it on etsy and putting together some shipments to a couple of consignment shops. Now, I want to make some art and try and write a story book.
Anyway, here is something I started a while back with plans on finishing for the show but instead I finally got to today.
