I made these little encaustic bonbons a while ago.  Now they’re all wrapped up and ready for delivery to their new home. Each one is maybe almost 2 x 2 inches, encaustic on panel. You can see a larger pic of them altogether after the jump. Read more »

Cells 3
encaustic on panel
10 x 10 inches

I finished this yesterday and photographed it this morning. It’s the newest painting in a series I call “Cells”. The series description from my website:

One basic shape, repeated as many times as fits on a single support, is allowed to vary in size, color and shape. The changes in each cell both force changes in and accomodate for changes in surrounding cells. The overall pattern is enriched by the variation. This is interesting to me both as a vehicle for formal concerns and as a metaphor.

The text is a fairly accurate description of how this series began. The original cell work, though much larger at about 6 feet tall by Read more »

New Year, New Art / Cold Weather, Hot Wax

Posted in Art, encaustic, Painting, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , on January 3, 2009 by ssstephg

i spent the first day of the new year working with encaustic. here’s the day’s finished product.

*Clickable for larger image*
encaustic on panel
about 8.75 x 4 inches

since it’s been freezing here lately and i rely on two little space heaters to warm my studio, i’ve decided now is a good time to concentrate on working with hot wax. as long as the temp stays so low that i can see my breath when i go in to turn the heaters on in the morning, you can expect to see more new encaustic works (and probably little else) from me.

Art of the Season

Posted in Art, encaustic, Painting, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , on December 26, 2008 by ssstephg

i just realized i didn’t watched a single xmas movie this season. no Burl Ives crooning silver and gold, no Bing and Rosemary dreaming of a white xmas, nothing. this may have to be remedied by hunting down a copy of that awesome kids special with the Snow Miser and Heat Miser characters.*

in keeping with the holiday tendency toward all things sparkle-y shiny and ornate, here’s a little piece of gold-sprinkled art.
