Ann-Maree Walker: Almost Like Being There

Recently, I photographed the installation of Ann-Maree Walker’s new site-specific work, Almost Like Being There, which will remain on display through October 21st at the Luminary Center for the Arts in St. Louis. Incidentally, I also photographed the image for her promo card (see above).

All photographs, Nikon D300 with either the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G, Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G, or Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-x Pro lenses.

Although Ann-Maree makes wonderful drawings, her better-known work exists in 3-D and encourages interaction with the viewer. In this instance, Mrs. Walker has suggested that her work in this former chapel is something which channels both the spectacle and physical movement of worship. In her words, “The engagement between the viewer and the work creates a choreographed performance that humorously explores the rituals of conforming one’s body to an environment in order to achieve a higher state of experience.”

If you have not yet had the opportunity, I highly recommend checking out this exhibition before it’s too late. Please click on the photo at the top of this post for more information.
