Fetishistic finger-licking toupe.
Posted in Art, digital, Tom Bennett, video with tags Art, bunuel, digital art, l'age d'or, Tom Bennett, video on April 6, 2011 by Tom BennettI’ve got nothing. I’ve been busy doing other things than making art the past couple of weeks, like making some sort of a living, so I apologize for being a kill joy.

Here’s some erotic toe-sucking :
Constantly Evolving
Posted in Art, Toni Tiller with tags Art, hoarding, Toni Tiller on April 6, 2011 by Toni TillerMy house has become something of an art project in itself over the years. When I first moved in here 12 years ago the owner was (and still is) something of a hoarder, part of it is laziness (can’t be bothered to clean or throw things away), part of it is nostalgia, and part of it is seeing value everywhere. There were piles upon piles of crap, junked cars on the lawn, skinny paths through teetering towers of stuff, and surprises at every turn. If I recall correctly I found 13 non-working televisions in that first year alone, it felt like every time I lifted a box up there would be a TV under it!
It took me years, a multitude of teen aged assistants, and at least one act of God to get it all under some control – so what do I do once I get it there? I invite my friend Andy to bring it all back, in the form of “art supplies”. He had a little run-in with the town and needed a place to put all his stuff, the plan being that he would make an outdoor studio here to work. That was the plan anyway.
What really happened is he moved all the stuff here, put tarps over all of it, and then got caught up in life. It happens. Now he’s moving to California and all this stuff has to go somewhere, so he decides he’s going to bring it with him, or most of it anyway, and the rest I can either keep or put in the 40 yard dumpster we had delivered.
Here is what we are dealing with.

Yeah.
At the same time, while I have the muscle and the dumpster I decided it’s a good idea to clean out the little blue cottage, which was impassibly filled with boxes of rotting paper and junk.
This was one of the “good” sections, meaning I could get inside of it.

No one has seen the floor in years. I think I am going to turn it into some functional studio space, while contemplating my co-dependent attraction to hoarders. Progress pics to follow.
Quilt for Grandma
Posted in Art with tags Art, blanket, quilting on April 5, 2011 by jdhastingsI just realized I need to reshoot this at a better exposure but it’s too late tonight. There’s an uneven shadow over it. Oh well.
Today is my Grandmother’s birthday. My Grandmother is a wonderful woman. My sister runs a blog about her, transcribing the love letters my Grandfather wrote to Grandma. My grandmother herself recently wrote her memories of the day her father was murdered. It’s still a very powerful subject for her.
My grandmother
For her birthday, and to practice some of the basics of quilting on a larger scale, I made her this blanket. The other side is a nice green The binding is white, and is hard to see in the photograph. I’m terrified it’s going to fall apart in 3 weeks but it seems pretty sturdy so far, and the binding is still held together with pins
Details after the leap.

Chinese Artist/Human Rights Activist Ai Weiwei Detained
Posted in Art, news, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags Ai Weiwei, Art, Artist, China, civil rights, detained, government, mean people suck on April 4, 2011 by ssstephgYou’ve probably heard by now that Weiwei was arrested Sunday and hasn’t been heard from since. A longtime critic of Chinese government, this isn’t his first run in with authorities. Speculation is that the current arrest is part of a government attempt to quash protests inspired by recent Middle East uprisings. Hyperallergic.com is a good source as they’re continuing to update their post on Weiwei’s situation as news from other sources rolls in.
Today, TED uploaded a film talk by Weiwei that they presented last month. Here it is:
Let’s hope good news of his release comes in soon.

Sunday Sidewalk Doodles Return From The Abyss

That didn’t prevent it from snowing here Friday though, Friday… which was April Fool’s Day. Mother Nature is a practical joker. Although I didn’t appreciate the cold wet slush, I admit that given the power of climate control, I’d have done the same. Still, earlier in the week it was nice enough for sidewalk doodling so that’s what we did.

detail shot of a work in progress
How’s that for a contrast to Jason’s lovely black and white photo series? This stuff I’m working on now I’m really having fun with, but it won’t be done for some time. I may finish other things sooner which I’ll show you, but I’ll be uploading details like these in the meantime. I think they’re kinda fun to look at.
