C’Orque Board
This local art co-op I belong to recently asked if I would provide some of my art cards and mini-paintings for them to sell. Obviously I was happy to oblige but after delivering some of them, it became clear that the gallerey and prospective buyers would need a way to display them.
I’m still trying to find a cheap and effective way to attach a tab the cards can be hung by, but did manage to make a few cork boards for the gallery this weekend:
Each framed corkboard is 12″ x 12″
This allows the cards or mini-paintings to be hung without putting new holes in the wall all the time, as well as prividing some flexibility in the size of the pieces displayed, arrangement, etc.
I’ll explain the process of making them after the jump, with closer shots of the corkboards themselves.
The local hardware store sells 4 packs of 12″ x12″ cork mats. On their own, they are brittle, so I super-glued them to 12″ x 12″ squares of plywood I made in the wood shop. I then stretched canvas over each to provide a more neutral background (2 different types of canvas). Then cut and painted some L shaped wood to frame them. All in all, not that difficult if you have a rudimentary wood shop.
Here’s close ups (with some pins in the boards):

This photo is blurry, which makes the whole thing look uglier than it is. If I’d had time last night I would have retook the pic, but I didn’t. Oh well.
Later I’ll post separately with some images of the cards and mini-paintings I’ll be giving them to sell.
