Prosthetic Party

Posted in Art, Photography, Toni Tiller with tags , , , on January 6, 2010 by Toni Tiller

I don’t really work in an office anymore, a situation to which there are pros and cons. Pro – I get to wear my pajamas to work and play with my cats while watching true crime shows and getting things done, cons – company Christmas parties are kind of small and not very exciting. Luckily this year I had the good fortune to be invited to another person’s party – at a prosthetic limb studio. What a fantastic experience, the walls and tables are all lined with custom made silicon molds and limbs and they even have their own full time tattoo artist to add personal touches at the patients request.  I was permitted to photograph as I pleased while enjoying the catered nibbles and open bar.

Stuff I Found Rearranging My Apartment

Posted in Art, Collage, J. D. Hastings, Painting with tags , , , on January 5, 2010 by jdhastings

I’ve been shuffling my apartment recently making room for new furniture, a process that forces me to deal with piles of forgotten art. Here are some of those. Typically when I run across them I go through a state of confusion wondering if they are finished, and if so are they any good? If they aren’t finished, what needs to be done with them? That can either lead to too many or too few possibilities and usually I either throw them out or hide them away again hoping to deal with it some time when I’m not busy cleaning.

If you have any input on where these stand, let me know. I’m afraid my art photography skills are somehwere sub-piss-poor for these. I apologize and will try to work on that.

18″ x 14″ mixed media, including random wood chips. This thing confuses the hell out of me.

14″ x 18″ mixed media. These were all cut by hand. The pain of doing so had a large part in getting me to buy the Pazzles machine.

Happy Cuddly Bean Day Y’all!

Posted in Miscellaneous, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , on January 5, 2010 by ssstephg

Today, January 6th, is Cuddle Up Day, a day to cuddle up to who(or what)ever you have handy I s’pose. Isn’t that sweet? It is until you discover it’s also Bean Day.  What an odd coincidence.  It hardly seems appropriate.

well so, hesitant hugs, depending on which holiday you choose to celebrate.

Hey Look, It’s Another One Of These

Posted in Art, Collage, J. D. Hastings, Painting with tags , , , , , on January 5, 2010 by jdhastings

Last week I promised to have worked more on art in time for this week. Instead I spent my 3 day New Year’s Weekend with what I assume was swine flu. And don’t think I’m above whining about it.

Anyways, I did manage this before the onslaught. It’s a version of the cutout cards I was making, but in 10″ x 10″ pieces of canvas instead of small paper versions. Its not really ideal size to be scanned, so some of the sides got cut off, but… Swine Flu. Deal with it.

I’ll have another post later Tuesday. Random crap I found while rearranging my room. I thought I should post this instead you hate all of those, though. And I just realized I forgot to add a final small piece to this one that would help separate Miles’ chin from the trumpter. Crud. So far I’m not loving the ‘teens.

I would love to just pop this little video on here for you all to see, but they do not allow embedding. It’s called “Otto vs. the Italian Futurists.”  A remake of a scene from the lost Futurist omnibus film “Vita Futurista” (1916). Created for “Futurist Life Redux” (2009), a Performa Commission with SFMOMA and Portland Green Cultural Projects.

Sunday Sidewalk Doodle: Happy Snorkeler

I spent a while outside drawing this on the sidewalk the day before New Years Eve when the ground was dry and the temperatures not too terribly low. It’s been snowed on and shoveled off a couple of times since then so it’s gotten a little blurry but it’s still visible!

Every year it’s a battle between me and New England winter. And every year I get my ass kicked hard. Usually by this time, I’m just about down for the count. So far, this year is different. Each time I manage to squeeze in another sidewalk drawing, it feels like a tiny victory.

2nd Collab of the Day: d’Arte Board Test Kitchen

I made cupcakes today with my beautiful assistant, Mark Bodah–same guy from my earlier post.  They’re chocolate with peanut butter frosting, all made from scratch.  Mark arranged the chocolate chips on top.  I think it’s a lovely touch.

EDIT for Tommy: Recipe included after the jump! :) Read more »

Bubblegum Icon: a collaborative painting/sculpture hybrid

Posted in Art, Stephanie Gerolimatos with tags , , , , , on January 2, 2010 by ssstephg

Bubblegum Icon
Stephanie Gerolimatos & Mark Bodah
26 x 21 inches
durabond, wire mesh, acrylic, dryer hose, foil, pink flocking

You know how it is when you start a piece and everything seems fine for a while and then somewhere along the way you realize you’re just not feeling it? Sometimes, the answer is to ignore it for a bit and come back later with a fresh perspective. Sometimes the answer is to chuck it in the dumpster. And sometimes the answer is to leave it for dead in your friend’s studio until she decides to try and resuscitate it McGuyver-style with some aluminum foil and pink flocking. Option number three is how “Bubblegum Icon” was born.  When my pal Mark Bodah abandoned this piece I just couldn’t stand to let it die a peaceful, dignified death. Well I mean, it was sitting there all bones and pale as a ghost. So like a well meaning mother, I force fed the child til it was fat and rosy. Remember, it’s the thought that counts.

To see a detail photo of Mark’s and my bastard love child, please follow the jump! Read more »
