Holiday Stuff and Things

Christmas Angels

After reading Jason’s post I was inspired to look back through some photos of Christmas trees I’ve had over the years.  The closeup on the left here is from one of my favorites. It had a sort of Vegas meets Dr. Seuss vibe. I’ll be sure to include a full body shot after the jump.  I think this was from two years ago.    If I remember rightly, we sawed down the tree ourselves at a local “kill your own” tree farm.  They supplied us with a saw, a length of rope and a red plastic sled for the chore.  Then we headed off wandering through the fields of trees to pick our victim all special-like. There was alot of snow that year which made the deed that much more of a challenge. After the kill, cold, wet and victorious, we dragged the slaughtered evergreen back to the parking lot, crammed it into the back of the stationwagon and headed home for some well-deserved hot chocolate. So fun!

Last year, I took a slightly more humane although still very DIY approach to the Seasonal centerpiece. After a hell of a bout of seasonal humbug fever and with only two or three days before Christmas, I suddenly found myself in the mood for the holiday.  So, I did what I could with what I had on hand.  What I had on hand was a dead rubber tree, a few strands of lights and a bit of garland.  You can see what I came up with here.

And here is the full view of the Vegas tree:

I’d love to get a tree this year and maybe I will.  There probably won’t be a murder your own party this year just because I’m not physically up to the challenge–I still can’t walk on my right foot–but maybe we’ll get a pre-sawn or even a small potted LIVE tree.  We’ll see what happens.  What are you all doing this year?  Have you got a tree already?  Any interesting plans?

Happy Seasonings Everybody!

christmas at your house is a ton of fun, and i know because i have had the pleasure first hand. this is the first year in ages that i dug out the old ornaments, some going back to things i made when i was 5, and put up a tree. it was an oddly emotional process, i cant say it was really fun but after i was done i was glad i did it. that one you did up there, that is something really special, i might have to make you come down and collaborate with me next year.

    • oh I’d be into that–a christmas collab would be tons of fun! it’s odd how holidays which should just be exciting and Fun–as simple as that–can evolve into such complex emotionally loaded times. i guess that’s how it is with everything tho. i’m trying to let go of all my negative feelings that work their way to the surface this time of year and just keep it simple, positive and fun. do you have big xmas plans this year? i don’t even know what we’re having for dinner yet. someone mentioned they were curious about goose and that got me wondering but i dunno. it might be disgusting. hmmn

  2. That tree scares me. The scale is confusing and I have vertigo now. Happy holidays.
