D’ArteBoard’s “Photographic Abstraction” Contest Winners!!

After a careful deliberation, the results are in, and Michael Engelbreit‘s “Red” Series was considered the overall best of the best. His photographs appear to combine several media into the result, which negates the fact that these works appear to spring from the moment. The combination of materials and their layout hints back at several eras of art historical approach, from automatism, to Rauschenberg’s “Combines”, to Siskind’s found compositions. It would be interesting to see where this series goes and how it will grow. Congrats, Michael! Here are his entries:

Runner’s up after the jump.For second and third place, things became a bit dicier to determine.  There were a lot of truly fantastic images to choose between; an exciting fact suggesting that Abstract Photography has both a significant and expressive following.  Ultimately however, we decided upon a tie for second place.  The two winners of this distinction were:

This was a tough contest, and closely decided upon, so we want to additionally extend honorable mentions to both Da-Do and Rolfe Bautista.  Thanks to everybody who participated!
