Story Bored
I’ve been too preoccupied and tired to finish anything over the past week. A painter, much like a poet or a homeless psychotic, has to pay the rent and sometimes that requires a day job. I freelance as a storyboard artist for advertising agencies. It requires a very fast hand and being able to draw out of your head. It also helps if you aren’t too proud to allow yourself to “hack”. Here are some samples of the brilliance that is the art of selling soap. Brain surgery it is not. Existentialist angst, it may promote. I know I’m saving capitalism for the greater good of humanity and eternity.

I have a buddy named Tom Farnsworth who does the same stuff as you. He also directs commercials, eventhough he’s color blind. (Does charcoal drawings with an incredible sense of depth, contrast and drama as a result, but keep him away from colored pigment.) *He also has a degree in philosophy.* His sister is Dee Farnsworth. She does backgrounds for Disney’s animated features. (Lilo and Stitch) Two artists in one family, both making a living “as hacks”! Oh to see their fine art though. Sublime! Superb! I think you are in their league for sure.
It’s not the capitalism that stinks so much as capital being perverted into Monarchy or at least mono-culture. Andrew Carnegie was a fine example in that.

Well at the end the wording is poor. I mean Carnegie was a fine exception to that, and a better example than the trust solidifying monopolists, betting moe on their own fortunes than anything else. The recently evolved term “credit default swaps” says it all.

Some interesting stuff, thanks for letting us see the other side of the artist.
That last drawing sure makes me curious.

I hope you know how fortunate you are in making a living in the arts. Many people would kill for that opportunity. As always your work if magnificent. I would hang that top one in my house.

no apologies needed, you didn’t create the system. you’re doing storybook art here and it’s good storybook art. Drawing fast and out of your head, with no photos or reference, are talents in themselves!
I like the first one, too. What’s the product behind the drawings? The girl spilling the milk looks like she has carpal tunnel syndrome and lost her grip… are they selling magnetic wrist supports for CTS?
