Children of the Corn and a New Approach to Fast Food…

0Corn, and lots of it.  Sometimes Springfield, Illinois, can be like stepping into a plot line from that 1984, Stephen King, treasure of a film, if only because of its plethora of corn and sometimes eerie lack of people.  Some of you might remember the series of pics that I posted earlier this year of the shuttered-up department store; well, it seems that every time I visit my mother-in-law, I end up photographing new scenes of the Capital City’s decay.  It is terribly sad to see the effects of the recent recession, but I also feel compelled to document the result (sort of to pay homage toward the tremendous struggle so many people have had to face).  Here are the results of my last trip; decay, decimation, and that which fuels us.  eNJOY!

All Nikon D50 with 50mm f/1.8D lens attached.

When I came across this Wendy’s, it was as if the plants had reclaimed it from humanity.  An idea tempered by the concept that humanity is the pursuit of freedom from vegetation or the dominance of it.  In these next couple of pictures, I came across a tree that was being decimated by beetles; unfortunately, I did not pack a macro lens for close-ups of the beetles.
