Rectangular Target
As promised, this is a new piece I made for a friend who had stated that he liked this piece. He may have been referring to the color, but I went ahead and referenced the form instead. I had been meaning to make one with differing colors since I finished the blue one, this just gave me the excuse.
24″ x 36″, Acrylic on Canvas w/ Safety-Pins, 6 layers
Details after the jump
For some reason I’ve been making a lot of targets in the last year. Its not particularly due to any symbolism or reference, I think its just an offshoot of using circles. When you’ve committed to centered circles it’s easy to start relying on either concentric rings, which end up making a target, or else you use arcs- which is also indicative of a dart board. So don’t read too much into it.
Well… I do love Jasper Johns and was meaning to do a piece like this in tribute, but the rectangluarity kind of damages that, and most of the targets AREN’T tributes to Johns so… I don’t know what I’m trying to say here.

wow, nice! how deep is this one?
i swear to god, my brain keeps stalling so don’t take my lack of words to be a lack of enthusiasm. i’m offering a brief but positive reaction rather than some long-winded inane crap which is all i’m capable of at the moment. renewed coffee addiction gone unfulfilled today.
