I’m A Little Early

I’m going to be on a plane all day tomorrow though, so I’m going to post my first self portrait in a long time now.

Hi Toni, this is a great shot. I love the mood that it evokes, and that there is a definite story-line that can be read from the composition. It looks like you are waiting for a guest or guests to arrive (food spread and the open door in the reflection), and by the fading light outside, it’s probably for dinner. Your pose suggests that maybe you’ve been stood up, or maybe it’s to be an uncomfortable or not entirely welcome meeting. And I love how the emotion expressed in your positioning is contrasted by the bright and bloomed flowers. Overall, there is kind of a sallow tone, which kind of makes me feel a bit uneasy (a good thing for the shot, though).

Is this with the new camera?
    Best-

  3. This reminds me of that film The Bridges of Madison County. There’s an anxious, sad feeling of her (you) waiting. It’s modern food styling, the choice of food almost picnic style evokes of feeling of “family” casual, as though the person waiting for is someone close to her. But is also reminicent of earlier times with choice of clothing. Is she waiting for her “lover” or is this more paradoxal, a play on the “mental” she is waiting for herself. Also, the colors are fantastic!

  4. I’ve been to that function, and I’ve felt like that. Totally messes the rest of the day, and half of the next. At least the bouquet will last longer than that.

Glad you got back into the water, Tortellini.

  5. This is a wonderful photo. It is so warm and full of life :D

  6. heartbreaking and frightening at the same time. The eye of the storm so to speak. well done.

thank you everyone, it’s such a pleasure to hear what associations everyone brings to these types of things that i do. as usual, this is something that has a direct meaning, and a person it is directed to, but outside of that i like to keep things loose enough that other people can bring their own interpretations to it. it was strange and antithetical to how i usually work making this in that there were people in proximity, though at the same time no one really knew i was doing this. when i was done i had to go pass out on the couch.

btw, i used JD’s camera since mine is still all screwed up.

ok, i just got off a plane, my ears still haven’t popped and i am cranky. time for bed. thanks again for all the feedback everyone, i really appreciate it and it felt good to get back in the deep end.
