Primitive Mythology

Primitive Mythology, digitally altered paper collage, 10 1/2 x 14 in., 2009
This is an old collage that I reworked on the computer. Even though it includes a little text its not part of my planned series of word-art pieces. I also changed the title of the piece. Its in reference to something I heard Deepak Chopra say on Nightline last week. I thought it was amusing, but hope its not too offensive to anyone.
The hand is from a photo of my own hand after I nearly cut off my finger whilst de-pitting an avacado.

I get at least one thing from this and that is the notion of motivational meaning and usage of stimulation in the understanding process. There is pattern recognition here. Meaning is taken from one jobber and placed here and there mathemagically for some desired effect in some other process in the mind. Building your trigger is the phrase that comes to mind from J. Waitskin’s The Art of Learning.

I hope the avocado was worth it, as you now seem to be permanently “married” to it by the stitched ring it created around your finger.
I can’t tell what you did to this digitally, but it is a simply effective composition. The ability of the background to stay behind the focus point while also offering a lot of detail for further study is a good tool.

I didn’t think avocados were a good source of irony.
The collage is good. Man, I’m sorry but how did you do that to your hand? (I eat a lot of avocados now that I have gout.) I usually quarter around the seed, half it, then stick the knife in the middle of the seed to pull it out. I hold the avocado in my left hand, a chef’s knife in my right. Doesn’t seem like you could miss from half a foot swinging it. Sometimes I’m even putting the avocado down, like when it’s kinda small. Maybe you had one that was fighting back.
