Hey everyone, thanks for the support!! Laedelas, that’s a great link; I’ll enjoy reading it up until d-day (er, e-day?). Toni, I will definitely update this as it goes, with content such as, whether or not I think it is worth it, whether or not it has actually changed anything in terms of friendships, what I am getting accomplished (or not), etc. Tarabu, believe it or not, I rarely have conversations with anyone truly close to me over email. I don’t know why; I just never developed the habit, I guess. Of course, I don’t phone much either…Wow, I must just be embracing my inner hermit…Tom, of everyone that I have met so far over the internet, you are the one that I always had the most problems with in trying to imagine you taking time out to sit down at the computer and converse online. Even though we’ve never met in person, for me, you’ve always had this mid-century, New York, existential, painter mystique floating around you that is so dichotomous to the internet age…. I should add that I mean that as a compliment…. Thanks again, everyone!

no e-mail? seriously, I’d never hear from my mother.
I’m a ghost in the few of these places I am represented (my facebook profile even suggests that if I don’t know you in real life you should not try to be my friend); however, I fear the loss of e-mail would lead to the distancing of so many of my friends who simply do not phone.

Congrats, man! This is a big move! Before you give up the internet forever, you might want to read some blog posts by Tim Ferriss about harnessing technology… http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/ This site has really helped me limit my contact with technology so I don’t “worship” it.

I share much of your concerns, Jason. The anxiety connected to this weird new social system is, fortunately, based only on perception. Real human interaction cannot be replaced.
