The Title Hasn’t Come To Me Yet

Usually as soon as I finish one of these I look at it and something pops right into my head, like my own little free association Rorschach ink blots or something, but with this one I’ve got nothing so far. I know it reminds me of Japanese landscape paintings, but that’s it. If anything comes to you, feel free to share or this one might end up permanently being called the title of this blog post.

I can totally see an Asian landscape. The inversion of the central form in black and white is a great effect. I also seed a lounging cat in the black shape. I’m terrible with titles though, so I can’t help there.

  2. I resist looking for literal or narrative connections , but I see a satellite view of a frozen inferno.

  3. You already mentioned a good possibility it yourself- “Rorschach”.

    Cue music-
The Ror-schach, it’s a little ol’ place where, we can get to-ge-ther.
    Rorschach, ba-by!

  4. I see a woman leaning over backward with her head turned to the left to receive a kiss, her left arm reaching to wrap around the head of her lover. And the whole thing gives me a feel of a creepy Klimt painting with the gold and the lights all turned off. It’s Klimt meets Bertold Brecht.

But don’t go by me. I keep think theres a figure in the neighbors yard as I drive by it every night. Have for five years! When it’s just a stone pier with a boulder on top. I just can’t get used to it.

this is why i have grown to love making abstract art! i am really enjoying hearing the differences in ambiguous narratives and interpretations. i never thought i would be able to participate in abstract art because my brain tends to be literal and i also have a fear of blank white paper, so finding a way to work with my camera has been such a relief. now i can join the abstract party!

oh and andrew, i used to have the same problem with a particularly busy and menacing floral wall paper in my mothers bedroom. devil faces every 2 feet.

  6. I see a large older woman wheeling her suitcase along a rocky path that leads up to a pool of water. I also see the Asian landscape too.

    you bastard.

now i have that song and images of leotard clad freaks jetee’ing through my head an i bet its going to be stuck there ALL DAY.

  8. i see dead people. no, i see a vortex of indecision. NO! i see an exploding cotton candy cart and it’s headed right for us! LOOk OUT!

it does have an asian landscape feel to it. i’d call it “Ceci N’est Pas Une Japanese Landscape”. reminds me of many of the asian scrolls i framed in my past life. it’s lovely.

Toni- don’t worry about it. You’re going to live forever, you’re going to learn how to fly high!

  10. Interesting. When I saw it, I thought immediately “Western”. It reminds me of a western film where there are a bunch of buffaloes stampeding directly towards us (with the camera in the center, so they swarm around us). Back and to the left is a cowboy riding on his horse…. and at the rear is the cloud of dust from all the hooves kicking the earth up…..

  11. [...] one element of abstraction. The most straight forward interpretation might be something like one of Toni or Jason’s abstract photographs, but under these broad definitions, the door is wide open for [...]
